Hey, it's Iris. The freelance reporter from the Heropa paper? :)
I know I took a while getting my sources together, but I've got a draft I want you and Archie to look over. What and where would be a good time to meet up?
Weekend sounds perfect! There's a couple of places in Heropa I like. Let me know which one you'd prefer, and I'll meet you there say, Saturday morning? Anytime between 10-1?
[ she'll give two addresses to local coffee shops; one's a Latin American place with homemade empanadas, while the other skews more hipster, with thick sourdough and/or rye toasts. ]
[ she'll be about five minutes early, in fact, just to scope out a table near the window. Whenever Reggie arrives, Iris rises to her feet and waves over at him - ] Hey.
I figured I'd snag our table, but go ahead and order what you want. It'll be on me today.
[ Reggie lifts his hand in a casual, vaguely lazy return wave, sauntering over to the table and taking a seat, leaning back in his chair in a way that suggests he wishes he could put his feet up, too.
Though he won't, of course. ]
You sure? Well if that's what you want, who am I to argue. [ He picks one of the menus up, though doesn't open it just yet. ] Anything you'd recommend?
One, I asked you here, and two, pretty sure I can afford it. [ Unless he eats like Barry, and then all bets are officially off. Iris will cross that bridge if she needs to, and lament her wallet's emptiness . . .] I've only had the vegetarian empanadas, but everything is a pretty solid bet.
[ she'll give him a couple of minutes before calling a waiter over and taking their order. Iris goes for her usual: an Americano with an extra shot of espresso, and one too many beef empanadas. (Girl knows what she's about.) ]
Make it two. No, actually-- [ Reggie folds his menu closed again, handing it back to the waiter. ] Make it three. Plus an orange mocha, extra whip.
[ Since this isn't Starbucks he can't get his usual frappe order, but that's okay; Reggie's not afraid of real coffee, either.
As the waiter heads back toward the kitchen, Reggie sits back slightly in his seat, letting his fingers link together behind his head so he can incline it against them. ]
Oh right, so-- still don't know what got this whole mess started in the first place, but we did finally get cleared to play again. Season's over, but I also play basketball. [ He rolls his eyes briefly, then rolls his shoulders in a shrug. ] We do have to wear those nullifier things, though.
Better than no basketball. [ Always looking on the bright side! Iris's expression softens as she reaches into her purse and pulls out her usual notebook for interviews - unsurprisingly, it's cute and floral. ] They're not super heavy, right? I can't imagine it would affect your game that much, beyond like... what they're meant to do.
[ a girl can hope, anyway. From what she'd gathered, Reggie and Archie had been athletes back home. They weren't exactly newcomers to the arena. ]
no worries!! I'm always cool to backtag or handwave or whatever <3
[ Reggie's not so much an optimist as he is someone who just wants and expects things to work out for him, at least "in the end" if not straight up "all the time," so this compromise isn't one that bothers him all that much. As long as he gets to play again like normal (and to him it is like normal, since he doesn't normally have powers in the first place) and, frankly, doesn't have to deal anymore with people saying that he's being discriminated against because of all this.
Because while he might not show it much since it doesn't come up much -- not to his face, anyway -- Reggie really dislikes when people imply he might get treated differently over something. A lot. ]
And they're pretty light-weight, as far as I can tell. No problems yet at least during practice, it just kind of... straps on.
[ She nods, jotting down notes on her phone really quick - "no problems, lightweight, straps on." ]
That's how our nullifers worked back home, so that makes sense.
[ Though speaking of the article! Iris printed out a copy of the draft, so she'll fish that out of her leather portfolio along with a red pen, should he want to circle or highlight anything that seemed off. ]
Anyway, I brought the draft with me, and I thought I'd run it by you before the higher-ups for fairly obvious reasons. [ Given that the school administration were the ones responsible for suspending them in the first place. Iris would rather not give them more ammunition than she has to. ] There's no rush, if you wanna take it back with you, and obviously, I can email it and other drafts to you guys too.
